Rooney pleased for Welbeck

Wayne Rooney has praised Danny Welbeck after the striker scored his first senior international goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over Belgium at Wembley Stadium.

The Manchester United forward's dinked finish on 36 minutes was enough to secure Roy Hodgson's side a victory in their final warm-up game before Euro 2012.

"Danny has done very well." Rooney told Sky Sports News. "It's great to see him in the squad and great to see him get his first goal tonight.

"I think his loan spell at Sunderland certainly helped. He came back bigger and stronger and he started a lot of games for United this season and did really well."

Rooney played the majority of the second half after coming on as a substitute for his club teammate.
