England captain Wayne Rooney excited to partner Harry Kane against Italy

Rooney excited to partner Kane

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has expressed his excitement at the prospect of partnering Harry Kane in attack for England in tomorrow's friendly against Italy.

Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson this evening confirmed that in-form Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane would make his full international bow in Turin after scoring just 79 seconds into his senior debut during Friday's Euro 2016 qualifying win over Lithuania.

"I think it's exciting for English football that Harry has come into the Premier League with Tottenham and done fantastic so hopefully he continues that form with England," Rooney told a pre-match press conference this evening.

"It's big night for him - his first start for England - and I'm sure he'll be excited and he'll go out and give his best.

"I'm obviously excited to play with him and hopefully we can do well to help the team."

Rooney himself is chasing a milestone as he is just two goals shy of Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 49 goals at international level.
