Stephane Henchoz tips Roy Hodgson to do well if he gets the England job.

Former Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz believes that Roy Hodgson would be a good choice as England manager.

Hodgson has emerged as the leading contender to take over the role of England boss following talks with the FA at Wembley on Monday.

Talks between the two parties are expected to resume today and Henchoz, who played under Hodgson for Switzerland, thinks that the West Bromwich Albion chief could bring success to the country.

"For me he's a good choice. He did a tremendous job with Switzerland. Before he took over we had not qualified for a major tournament for more than 40 years, then we qualified for the World Cup in 1994 and then Euro 96," said Henchoz.

"I think he can bring England success. He's very disciplined and will ask that from the players. They might not play the most beautiful football. Sometimes, especially going forward, some players don't get the freedom they would like. But they would be hard to beat.

"England can lift a trophy under Hodgson. Tournaments are always difficult and, when you reach semi-final, little details will make the difference. That's where Roy is an especially good manager, and that's what makes the difference at the top level."

Hodgson's contract with the Baggies is due to expire in June.
