Ferguson: 'Ferdinand won't play for England again'

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that Rio Ferdinand is unlikely to play for England again.

The defender was controversially left out of the squad for Euro 2012 by manager Roy Hodgson.

When asked if the 33-year-old could return to the international fold, Ferguson said: "I don't think so. I can't see it. It's not on his agenda either.

"He's 33 now and wants to be fit for us.

"As a centre-back if you look after yourself you should play until you're 37."

Ferdinand has won 81 caps for his country after making his debut in 1997.
