Cahill: '50th cap would be proud moment'

England defender Gary Cahill has talked up how much winning his 50th cap for his country would mean to him.

The 30-year-old only made his international debut at the age of 25 but now finds himself as the third most-capped player in the squad behind Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart.

Cahill would reach a half-century of appearances for his country if he plays in both of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia, and he is hoping to fulfil that "great achievement".

"It is something I was aware of. Now players are coming in to the squad at 19 or 20 years of age, for me to come in at 25, it is great achievement because I have played regularly from then. It would be something I would be very proud of," he told reporters.

Cahill has scored three goals for England in his 48 caps so far.
