Danny Welbeck says that he and Daniel Sturridge can both play in the same England team amid reports that the two will compete to be Wayne Rooney's strike partner.

Danny Welbeck has dismissed the suggestion that he and Daniel Sturridge are rivals in the England setup.

Following Sturridge's injury during the last international break, Welbeck was brought into the side and scored the two goals which earned them a 2-0 victory over Switzerland last month.

The Arsenal forward kept his place for Thursday's 5-0 win over San Marino - in which scored again - and has been tipped to keep Sturridge out of the side when he returns to fitness.

However, when asked about the matter, the 23-year-old told reporters that both he and the Liverpool striker could be accommodated in the same team.

"I have been in squads with Sturridge before and we have played in different positions," Welbeck said. "Whoever is in the squad I am going to try my best in every single game and training.

"There is me, Daniel, Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling as well and all the other forward players, so you can't just say this is the opportunity to make my mark."

Welbeck has taken his tally of England goals to 11 goals in 29 appearances.
