Peter Crouch not hopeful of replacing Wayne Rooney as England striker

Crouch: 'I don't expect England recall'

Stoke City frontman Peter Crouch believes that he won't be selected by Fabio Capello to join up with the England squad despite Wayne Rooney's Euro 2012 ban.

While the 30-year-old is a potential candidate to replace the Manchester United star, Crouch isn't confident he will be picked.

"I wouldn't say Wayne's absence means I'll get back in," the Daily Star quotes Crouch as saying. "I don't carry much hope.

"I've felt like I've always done well for England and I feel like I've been doing well for Stoke, so of course it's disappointing when I'm not selected.

"I'll get on with playing for Stoke. If the call comes then great, but if not, I'm happy where I am."

Rooney is expected to learn the length of his match ban today.
