Fran Kirby: 'World Cup goal means a lot to me'

England forward Fran Kirby tells of her delight at grabbing her first Women's World Cup goal for the team to help the Three Lionesses earn a 2-1 win over Mexico.

England forward Fran Kirby has revealed her delight after grabbing a goal to help seal her side's first victory in the Women's World Cup 2015 with a 2-1 win over Mexico.

Kirby notched England's opening goal in the 70th minute, before Karen Carney scored a second seven minutes from time to ensure that Mark Sampson's side still maintain control in their pursuit to reach the last 16 of the tournament.

"The goal means a lot. It is my first World Cup, first start and first goal," said Kirby, according to BBC Sport

"I was a bit worried it would not go in but when it did I was delighted."

England will now prepare to face Colombia in their final Group F match in Canada.
