Liverpool returned to winning ways with a dominant 5-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany on Wednesday night in each side's third Champions League match of 2025-26.
The first real talking point of the evening was an unfortunate injury to Jeremie Frimpong, who appeared to suffer second hamstring problem this season, coming off before the 20th minute.
Frankfurt would take the lead through Rasmus Kristensen before the half-hour mark, with Florian Wirtz dispossessed high on the right before the goalscorer netted from the Reds' left.
Liverpool did not have to wait long before getting back on level terms, with former Eagles man Hugo Ekitike predictably scoring after racing through during a counter-attack, and the visitors would net a second through Virgil van Dijk from a corner.
Ibrahima Konate nodded home a third before the interval from another corner, but the Merseysiders were not finished, finding a fourth thanks to Gakpo's finish from Wirtz's cross shortly after the hour mark.
Szoboszlai scored his side's final goal from range with 20 minutes left to play, and the win leaves Liverpool in 10th place with six points, whereas Frankfurt are 22nd with three points.
SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT
Losing five consecutive matches would have been unthinkable for Liverpool, but Arne Slot's brave selection choices paid off, though it is hard to imagine Mohamed Salah remaining on the bench.
It should not be overlooked that the Reds have now conceded 18 goals in 13 games and have shipped the first goal in their last five matches, but their overall performance was considerably better than their displays in recent weeks.
Though Liverpool were deserving winners, it should be noted that their hosts had let in 18 goals in their prior five outings, and they will no doubt encounter tougher opposition in the coming weeks.
Frankfurt have many of the same defenders as they had last season, so to concede so many times is alarming, as if the fact boss Dino Toppmoller has not yet found a way of addressing the team's frailties.

MAN OF THE MATCH - DOMINIK SZOBOSZLAI
The decision to drop Alexis Mac Allister was not an unjust one, but Szoboszlai managed to excel in a deeper role in the double pivot alongside Curtis Jones, and he should be an option there moving forward.
Szoboszlai completed 105 of his 110 passes, scored once, provided an assist and was excellent from a defensive perspective.
