Steve McClaren accepts Derby County defeat

Derby County boss Steve McClaren admits that his side deserved their 2-0 defeat away to Fulham.

Derby County boss Steve McClaren has admitted that Fulham deserved their win over his side in the Championship.

The Rams missed the chance to strengthen their grip at the top of the table on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

Despite seeing their promotion bid suffer a setback, McClaren is confident that his players will respond positively.

"They deserved to win and we would not have scored if played until Tuesday," he told Sky Sports News. "We'll have one or two more bad days at the office, I can guarantee that, but the key thing is we just shake it off and go again.

"There will be lots of twists and turns yet. We've missed an opportunity today but there will be others and we have to make sure we take them."

Derby continue their Championship campaign on Tuesday when they make the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
