San Jose Earthquakes cruise past Dallas

San Jose Earthquakes have increased their chances of an MLS playoff spot, with a 2-1 win over Dallas.

Ramiro Corrales was an early threat for the Earthquakes, firing just wide in the opening minutes before setting up Victor Bernardez, whose shot was blocked.

They took the lead on 27 minutes when Walter Martinez's low cross somehow evaded everyone, including the goalkeeper, and ended up in the far corner.

Dallas responded after the break as Blas Perez and Kenny Cooper both saw efforts from inside the box saved, but it was the home side who scored again.

Chris Wondolowski picked up the ball on the right of the box, controlled well and smashed it into the roof of the net with just over half an hour to go.

San Jose almost went further ahead when Steven Lenhart found space in the box, but his header was tipped wide by the goalkeeper.

Dallas did manage a late consolation goal courtesy of substitute Stephen Keel, who collected Perez's pass and finished well.
