Preview: Dagenham & Redbridge vs. Wrexham - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's National League clash between Dagenham & Redbridge and Wrexham, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wrexham will be looking to cement their spot in the National League playoff quarter-finals when they finish their regular season away to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Welsh outfit are currently sixth in the table, one point clear of eighth-placed Eastleigh, while Dagenham occupy 12th and cannot finish any lower than their current position.

Dagenham have enjoyed a relatively solid campaign in the National League, picking up 59 points from their 41 matches to occupy 12th position, four points clear of 13th-placed Boreham Wood.

As mentioned, the Daggers cannot finish any lower than their current spot, but a win over Wrexham, coupled with a Solihull Motors defeat to Eastleigh, would see them claim 11th.

Daryl McMahon's side struggled for results in the early stages of April but then went on a six-game winning run between April 13 and May 8 to rise up the table.

Dagenham's unbeaten run stretched to seven games when they drew at Stockport County on May 11 before returning to winning ways at home to Halifax Town on May 15.

The home side will enter this match off the back of a defeat, though, having gone down 2-1 at Chesterfield last weekend, with the hosts coming from behind to pick up all three points.

There is not an awful lot for Dagenham to play for on the final day of the season, but the same cannot be said for Wrexham, who are looking to secure their spot in the playoff quarter-finals.

As it stands, the Red Dragons are sixth in the table, but they are only two points clear of 10th-placed Halifax Town, meaning that a lot could change over the course of the afternoon.

Dean Keates's side, who finished 19th in the National League last season, suffered a damaging 1-0 home loss to Notts County on May 18 but managed to return to winning ways at home to King's Lynn Town last weekend, meaning that a victory of any kind in this game would secure a playoff spot.

Wrexham - owned by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds - will not be making any decisions on next season until they learn their fate, and it would be a monumental boost for the club if they managed to negotiate their way into League Two alongside the champions Sutton United.

Team News

Dagenham will be unable to call upon midfielder Joey Jones this weekend, as the midfielder is suspended due to the red card that he picked up in the defeat to Chesterfield last time out.

As a result, there could be a spot in the middle of the park for Mohammed Sagaf, but there are not expected to be many alterations to the starting XI.

Paul McCallum is Dagenham's leading scorer in the National League this season with 15, and he could potentially be supported by Myles Weston once again.

As for Wrexham, there will be a temptation to select the same XI that started against King's Lynn, as the Welsh outfit were impressive in the final third of the field.

Gold Omotayo scored a brace last time out and is certain to keep his spot in attack, with the 27-year-old likely to be partnered by Jordan Ponticelli.

Dior Angus, Tyler French and Daniel Jarvis all came off the bench in Wrexham's last match, but the trio are unlikely to be considered for starts on Saturday afternoon.

Dagenham & Redbridge possible starting lineup:
Justham; Wright, Reynolds, Khan, Saunders; Johnson, Sagaf, Robinson, Gordon; Weston, McCallum

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Lainton; Davies, Vassell, Hall-Johnson, Kelleher; Pearson, Green, Harris, Young; Omotayo, Ponticelli

We say: Dagenham & Redbridge 0-1 Wrexham

A win for Wrexham is enough to make the playoffs regardless of what happens elsewhere, and we fancy the visitors to triumph. Dagenham's form must be respected, though, and it could be a very uncomfortable 90 minutes for the Welsh club.
