Following Portugal's quarter-final victory over the Czech Republic at Euro 2012, Sports Mole assesses the 90 minutes in Warsaw.

Portugal became the first team of this year's European Championship to reach the semi-finals with a 1-0 victory over the Czech Republic in Warsaw on Thursday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo's header 11 minutes from time capped a dominant display by Paulo Bento's men in the National Stadium.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the evening's action as the knockout stages got underway.

Was the result fair?

An emphatic yes. After a drab first half, Portugal dominated play in the second period and were eventually rewarded with a goal. With some more accurate shooting they could have had five or six, while the Czechs rarely threatened.

Czech's performance

It was a disappointing display from Michal Bilek's team to say the least. The most frustrating aspect of their play was a lack of fight in midfield, while they were very much toothless in attack.

Portugal's performance

After a poor first-half showing, Paulo Bento's men were supercharged in the second. They quite happily camped themselves in the Czech half and peppered the goal with a number of efforts. They wanted the victory more and it clearly showed.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Cristiano Ronaldo: The Portuguese captain was the best player on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes. He was a constant threat, hitting the post twice before nodding in a superb header with 11 minutes to play.

Referee performance

There's usually some drama when the Portuguese are playing, but Howard Webb was excellent throughout. He was firm but fair and only got the book out when necessary.

Biggest gaffe of the game

They may have gone through tonight, but the Portuguese may need to look at their finishing for the semi-final. They wasted a host of opportunities in front of the Czech goal and could be punished against better opposition.

What next?

Czechs: Probably a flight home on Friday morning. Having done so well to get out of their group, they will be bitterly disappointed with the tepid display this evening.

Portugal: The 2004 runners-up will now look to their semi-final with Spain or France. They'll be full of confidence after this and will most certainly fancy their chances of reaching another final.
