Coppell: 'Palace need new manager soon'

Former Crystal Palace manager Steve Coppell has urged the club to appoint a new boss sooner rather than later.

Keith Millen is currently in temporary charge of the Eagles following Ian Holloway's departure at the end of last month.

Despite co-chairman Steve Parish insisting that the club are close to announcing a new manager, Coppell believes that they should not bide their time too much.

"They need a manager who can cope with the Premier League football and also have the energy, if they do go down, to drive the club back up again," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"I've got every confidence [Parish] will come up with the right combination, but you don't want to leave it too long."

Dan Petrescu and former Stoke City boss Tony Pulis are said to among the leading candidates for the vacancy at Selhurst Park.
