Sean Scannel's stoppage-time winner ensures that Crystal Palace beat Barnsley 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

A stoppage-time Sean Scannel winner earned Crystal Palace a 1-0 win over Barnsley at Selhurst Park this evening.

Both sides started slowly with few clear chances for either team during the opening exchanges.

However, it was Barnsley who settled the better and Matty Done was denied a goal following a smart save by Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni.

Speroni was again tested in the 30th minute as he managed to produce a smart save from Andy Gray.

The Barnsley defence remained resolute throughout the first period with Palace being forced to try their luck from long range on a number of occasions.

The cagey nature of the match continued in the second half, with both sides struggling to assert themselves after the interval.

Sean Scannel came close to opening the scoring for Palace but his long-range effort just missed the target.

However, it was Scannel who found the winner in stoppage time as he headed his close-range effort past the reach of David Button.
