Crystal Palace's Steve Parish: 'Divers should see red following Ashley Young incident'

Parish: 'Divers should see red'

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has called on referees to be stricter with players who dive following Manchester United winger Ashley Young's incident at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 28-year-old was cautioned by match official Jon Moss after going to ground following a challenge by Palace's Kagisho Dikagoci, but a clash between the pair later on in the match resulted in United being awarded a penalty and Dikagoci getting a straight red card.

Parish, who watched his side lose 2-0 to David Moyes's team, believes that players should also get sent off for simulation.

"If preventing a goalscoring opportunity is a straight red, then trying to create one by cheating should be a straight red also," Parish wrote in an email to BBC Radio Five Live's 606 programme.

"Ashley Young's dive and the appeal before put pressure on the ref to give a subsequent penalty that was certainly outside the area and probably wasn't even a foul.

"Ashley Young has a yellow card and three points and we have no points and one less player to pick from for the next game."

Palace, who were promoted to the top flight last season, are currently 17th in the table.
