Dowie leading race for Palace job?

Iain Dowie has emerged as the latest candidate to fill the vacant managerial position at his former club Crystal Palace.

A number of coaches have been linked with the job since Ian Holloway stepped down three weeks ago, including Chris Coleman, Aitor Karanka, Malky Mackay, Tony Pulis and Dan Petrescu.

However, The Guardian reports that Dowie, who guided the Eagles to promotion from the Championship in 2004, impressed chairman Steve Parish in his interview, putting him in pole position.

Since leaving Selhurst Park in 2006, the 48-year-old has had stints at Charlton Athletic, Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers.

He has been without a job since leaving his temporary role as Football Management Consultant at Hull City in 2010 following their relegation from the Premier League.
