Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew knew his goal drought would end

Ayew had not scored since netting for Swansea in April last year.

Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew was always confident the goals would come after he finally ended his long drought.

The Swansea loanee scored his first goal of the season and first since April 2018 in Wednesday's 2-0 win at Wolves.

Ayew, on a season-long loan from the Swans, had failed to score in his first 14 Palace games before netting from close range with seven minutes left.

Palace have scored just 19 goals in 21 Premier League games this season – and a loan move for Liverpool's Dominic Solanke collapsed on Wednesday.

But Ayew is now off the mark and he had remained confident he would end his search.

He said: "I knew it would come and I have had the support from everyone at the club so I haven't had any pressure.

"The most important thing is for the team to win and get the points, which is my main focus.

"We need to keep on improving and that's what we will do, working hard at the training ground and just concentrating on getting points."

Despite a third win in their last five matches, Roy Hodgson's Palace remain 14th in the Premier League.

Luka Milivojevic's added-time penalty sealed the win and Ayew feels the Eagles responded well after a 1-0 loss to Chelsea.

"It's a big win and good for our confidence after losing at home, it was important for us to bounce back," he told the club's website.

"I'm pleased for myself, my family, for our fans and my fans in Ghana and I would like to thank the coach for giving me the opportunity.

"I was waiting for this moment and now it has come at the start of the New Year means new things, positives and three points so it's good."

Wolves have lost five of their last seven home games and boss Nuno Espirito Santo offered no defence.

"There are no excuses. We didn't perform well and Crystal Palace had one day less than us to recover," he said.

"We know this is a tight schedule and today we fought. A couple of days ago we were celebrating (at Tottenham) and now we have to bounce back.

"We are proud of what we're doing, but we want to keep growing, with persistence through the season."
