Andros Townsend eyes England recall

Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend hopes that he will be given the chance to return to the England set-up under Sam Allardyce.

Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has said that he is hopeful he will return to the England set-up under Sam Allardyce.

The 25-year-old was part of the initial Three Lions squad selected for Euro 2016 earlier this summer, but was one of the players cut from the 26-man selection when Roy Hodgson made his final call.

Townsend has scored three times in 11 appearances for England, however, and the attacker is confident that he will be given the chance to return to the set-up if he impresses at Palace this season.

"I think the new manager has shown with the inclusion of Michail Antonio that he's going to pick players in form," Townsend told Goal.com.

"If myself and Wilfried [Zaha] and any other English player is playing well, scoring goals, getting assists, then I'm sure the manager won't hesitate to call that person up. You can't really ask for much more in that sense."

West Ham United midfielder Michail Antonio was part of Allardyce's first squad after scoring twice in three matches at the start of the new Premier League season.
