How Chelsea could line up next season

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up at the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

Frank Lampard was unable to bring any new players to Chelsea in his first transfer window as head coach due to a suspension, meaning that this summer is expected to be busy for the Blues.

The London giants have already secured a deal for Ajax attacker Hakim Ziyech, but there could well be a number of incomings at Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

Whether Chelsea are able to offer Champions League football next season remains to be seen.

The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table, three points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United, although the season is unlikely to resume until at least May.

The club will certainly be thinking about next season, though, and with that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how Lampard's side could line up at the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

POSS CHE XI 2020-21 SEASON

Kepa Arrizabalaga is reportedly keen to stay and fight for his future at Chelsea, but the Spaniard has struggled for consistently since arriving at Stamford Bridge and could well be moved on this summer.

AC Milan's Gianluigi Donnarumma has been mentioned as a possible target for the Blues, and it would not be a surprise to see the capital giants move for the 21-year-old, who at 6ft 5in certainly has the frame and presence to make his mark in the Premier League.

Reece James and Antonio Rudiger are expected to be key members of Chelsea's defence next season but investment should arrive elsewhere. Indeed, Leicester City's Ben Chilwell has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, while Lazio centre-back Francesco Acerbi has emerged as another option.

Acerbi's agent recently claimed that the defender was capable of playing for "any club in Europe", though, with Inter Milan also believed to be interested in a move.

Elsewhere, Lampard will hope that N'Golo Kante can fight off his injury problems to become a key feature once again, while Miralem Pjanic could join him in the middle of the park. Indeed, Juventus are allegedly prepared to offer the Bosnian in exchange for Jorginho, and it would not be a surprise to see that deal take place.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has shown plenty of promise this season and will likely battle Christian Pulisic for a spot on the left with Willian's and Pedro's contracts due to expire at the end of June.

There could be three new faces in the final third, though, with Philippe Coutinho and Moussa Dembele both being strongly linked with moves to Stamford Bridge. Coutinho is expected to leave Barcelona this summer and might feel that he has unfinished business in the Premier League, while Dembele - also linked with Manchester United - has scored 22 times in all competitions this season.

Ziyech, as mentioned, has already agreed to join Chelsea and will therefore arrive this summer. The Morocco international, who has eight goals and 21 assists to his name during the 2019-20 campaign, has largely played off the right for Ajax this season and could fill that role for the Blues.
