Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois eyes Spain return

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois concedes that he 'misses Spain' and wants to return to La Liga at some point in the future.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has conceded that he 'misses the Spanish lifestyle' and wants to return to La Liga at some point in the future.

The 24-year-old spent three straight seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014, before returning to parent club Chelsea to replace Petr Cech as the club's new number one.

Courtois was linked with a return to the Vicente Calderon in the summer transfer window, and the Belgian international has admitted that he misses Spain and could engineer a move in 2018.

"Yes, but not only because of the club, but how Madrid is and the whole country. From the first minute I fell in love with Spain for its people, lifestyle, food... I still maintain eating dinner and then an afternoon nap, most of the television I see is Spanish... I am half Spanish," Courtois told Marca.

"I have a contract at Chelsea for three seasons. In 2018, when I enter the final year of the contract, we will assess whether to renew or leave."

Courtois won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Europa League during his time at Atletico, representing the Spanish giants on 154 occasions.
