Chelsea transfer news: Premier League club 'among three teams' chasing Marc Guiu

Sunderland 'among three clubs' eyeing loan deal for Chelsea youngster

Sunderland are reportedly one of three clubs who are realistic contenders to loan Chelsea forward Marc Guiu.

Since earning promotion back to the Premier League, the Black Cats have embarked on an astonishing effort to strengthen Regis Le Bris' squad.

On Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka was the latest notable addition to make the switch to the Stadium of Light, making it seven first-team signings.

NEC Nijmegen goalkeeper Robin Roefs is also expected to be confirmed as a Sunderland player in due course, but signing a new striker remains high on the list of priorities.

According to Sky Sports News, Sunderland have expressed an interest in securing the services of Guiu on loan.

Chelsea striker attracting Premier League interest

The report suggests that the North-East outfit are one of three teams who have emerged as serious candidates for the Spaniard.

Chelsea are open to allowing the youngster to go out on loan for 2025-26, yet any deal would not include an option to buy.

Furthermore, Chelsea also want the 19-year-old's wages to be paid in full, while they are unlikely to consider any team who are not prepared to hand Guiu regular minutes.

In an injury-hit first campaign at Stamford Bridge, the former Barcelona starlet contributed from six goals from 619 minutes of football spread across 16 appearances.

Although there are plans for Guiu to become a senior player with the West Londoners, he is currently only fourth in the pecking order behind Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Nicolas Jackson.

Ideal move for Guiu?

Last season, Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda - with 13 and 10 goals respectively - were the only two players to reach double figures in the Championship.

Although Guiu is younger than the 24 and 20-year-olds, he would expect to feature on a weekly basis if those two players remained as his competition.

Mayenda is also a versatile option, potentially leaving Guiu to go head-to-head with Isidor if he were to sign for Sunderland.

Chelsea may prefer Guiu to move to a lower-end Premier League club over mid-table to boost his chances of regular football.
