Stones wants release clause in new deal?

John Stones has reportedly made it clear that he will only sign a new Everton deal if the contract includes a £38m release clause.

Much of the summer's headlines were dominated by the speculation surrounding the future of Stones, but the Toffees fought to keep hold of the central defender by rejecting four bids from Chelsea.

Stones also handed in a transfer request, which was rejected by Everton, and the club are believed to be keen to hand him a long-term contract on improved terms.

According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year-old will only consider signing an extension if there is a promise that a bid will be accepted if a club is willing to pay £38m.

Chelsea were reported to have failed with a fourth offer of close to £38m last month but it has been suggested that they will launch another move next summer.

Stones and his Everton teammates welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park on Saturday.
