Spurs boss Harry Redknapp believes that Chelsea’s signing of Juan Mata has put an end to their pursuit of Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric.
Modric has been linked to a move to Stamford Bridge all summer and has revealed his desire to quit the North London club.
However, Chelsea announced yesterday (Sunday) that they have signed winger Juan Mata from Valencia for a reported £25m.
Redknapp believes that Mata’s move to the Premier League will kill Chelsea’s hunt for Modric.
"Chelsea have signed him?" Redknapp said, speaking to talkSPORT. "I didn't know that. Well, I would think that's the end of the Modric deal then, surely.
"I think Daniel (Levy) has said he will sit down with Luka in a month or so and have a chat with him and a look at his contract. I want to keep him for sure."
Mata moves to Chelsea having scored 33 goals in 129 appearances for Valencia.
