Manchester City join Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, according to a report.

Manchester City are the latest team to show an interest in signing Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, according to a report.

The Slovakia international has entered the final year of his contract with the Nerazzurri, who are at risk of losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

Skriniar will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January, and he was the subject of interest from numerous clubs in the most recent window.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were both linked with a move for the 27-year-old, while Paris Saint-Germain were understood to have shown the strongest interest in signing him.

In addition, a recent report claimed that Real Madrid were also lining up a swoop for Skriniar having already signed Antonio Rudiger as a free agent over the summer.

However, Simone Inzaghi's side - despite their desperate need for finances - resisted offers for Skriniar, but he could now walk away for nothing at the end of the season.

According to The Sun, Man City have now joined the likes of Spurs, Chelsea and PSG in the race for Skriniar as they seek a high-profile free agent swoop.

The report adds that Pep Guardiola's side will prioritise the signing of a new midfielder next summer, but they are open to the possibility of signing a new centre-back.

Skriniar earned a £30.6m move to San Siro in 2017 after enjoying a breakthrough year at Sampdoria and has since registered 11 goals and four assists in 223 games for the club.

The centre-back made 32 Serie A appearances as Inter won the Scudetto under Spurs boss Antonio Conte in the 2020-21 season, and he has also won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana during his time in blue and black.

Despite his uncertain contract situation, Skriniar has started all eight of Inter's games so far this season in Serie A and the Champions League as the Nerazzurri sit sixth in the top-flight table.

PSG are said to have tabled a bid worth €70m (£60.7m) for Skriniar on transfer deadline day, but Christophe Galtier does not have any regrets over his side's failure to strike a deal for the defender.

"We obviously wanted an extra central defender with this crazy schedule. We were right. It was impossible in the last week to finalise it," Galtier told a press conference.

"I understand my president for not accepting Inter Milan's conditions. We're going to make do with the squad we have available. I have versatile players. Will we have to integrate a young player or change the organisation? We'll see.

"There are young players with great potential. It was important for me and Luis Campos to recruit a defender, but unfortunately we didn't manage to do it."

Man City added Manuel Akanji to their centre-back ranks in the summer window and also managed to retain the services of Nathan Ake despite rumoured interest from Chelsea.
