Real Madrid complete loan move for Michael Essien

Michael Essien has moved to Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

Madrid had been in talks with the Chelsea midfielder during transfer deadline day, and the Blues have now confirmed the deal.

Essien will be reunited with Jose Mourinho, the man who signed him for Chelsea in 2005.

There had been talk that the Ghana international was to move to Arsenal or Everton, but a deal with Madrid was always the favoured option.

Essien was not in the squad as Chelsea were beaten 4-1 in the European Super Cup this evening.
