Romelu Lukaku says that Jose Mourinho has assured him of his place within the Chelsea first team.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been assured of his place in the first team at Stamford Bridge by new manager Jose Mourinho.

The Belgian international scored 17 goals during a loan spell with West Bromwich Albion this season, but his future with the Blues was in doubt as the club chased Radamel Falcao and continue to be linked with Edinson Cavani.

However, Lukaku said that he has spoken to the Portuguese coach and is eager to prove his quality in West London.

The 20-year-old went on to add that he wants to make a name for himself rather than be compared to former Chelsea star Didier Drogba.

"I always said my ambition was to play for Chelsea, and now I will go back to Stamford Bridge and try and play even more games than I did at West Brom," the Daily Mail quotes Lukaku as saying.

"I have had a good conversation with Jose Mourinho, and I know it's up to me to show I'm worth a place. I am determined to succeed with Chelsea next season. I want to prove myself.

"People will compare me with Didier Drogba, and he was always my hero. But I am my own man, and I want to be known for what I do."

Lukaku joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in 2011.
