Roma boss Jose Mourinho identifies Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a leading target for the club, according to a report.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a leading target for the Italian side ahead of the January transfer window.

The Serie A giants are expected to be active during the winter market, and Mourinho is believed to be determined to boost his options in the middle of the park.

According to Il Romanista, Roma are planning a move for Loftus-Cheek, with the Italian team keen on an initial loan deal with the option to buy at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

The report claims that I Giallorossi would be willing to cover the England international's £170,000-a-week wages for the rest of the season.

Loftus-Cheek has benefited from Chelsea's midfield injury problems during the 2021-22 campaign to make 17 appearances in all competitions, including 12 outings in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old's long-term future at Stamford Bridge is unclear, though, with the Blues believed to be keen to sign a new central midfielder in 2022.
