Chelsea protege Billy Gilmour reportedly wants to leave the club on loan to help kickstart his fledgling career.

Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour is reportedly hoping to secure a loan move away from the club in order to reignite his career.

The Scotland international endured a frustrating 2020-21 season with the Blues, as a knee injury ruled him out for the first few months of the campaign, and he featured just three times in the Premier League under Thomas Tuchel.

Gilmour played the full 90 minutes in victories over Fulham and Manchester City, but he only played a bit-part role throughout the campaign and did not play a single minute in any of their Champions League knockout games en route to the trophy.

As a result, The Sun reports that Gilmour is keen to gain experience elsewhere next season in a bid to kickstart an upturn in fortunes.

The report adds that Gilmour is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Mason Mount, who spent time on loan at Vitesse and Derby County before becoming an integral part of the Blues' setup.

Despite his disrupted 2020-21 campaign, Gilmour has been included in Scotland's Euro 2020 squad and won his first two caps in friendlies with the Netherlands and Luxembourg earlier this month.
