Chelsea transfer news: Blues ready to 'submit' official bid for Bundesliga star

Almost done: Chelsea make 'progress' to sign 22y/o attacker

Chelsea reportedly have made significant progress to sign RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have bolstered their attacking unit this summer by landing Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Joao Pedro, but Enzo Maresca still wants more quality players in the forward areas.

The former Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder joined Leipzig initially on loan from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2023, and later the deal was made permanent.

Simons scored 11 goals and provided seven assists last season, and Chelsea are keen to land him irrespective of their interest in Alejandro Garnacho, who is almost certain to leave Manchester United.

Chelsea ready to submit formal bid

Chelsea have reportedly held 'advanced talks' with Leipzig to sign Simons, who is valued at under £61m.

It has been previously suggested that the negotiations between the two clubs were going well, with Simons keen to move to Stamford Bridge.

Florian Plettenberg has now added that Chelsea are still working on a deal to sign the 22-year-old, and the verbal agreement is 'almost done'.

The Sky Deutschland journalist claims there is a strong feeling that the deal will go through, with the Blues now ready to submit their opening bid for the versatile attacking midfielder.

Chelsea can offer the Simons Champions League football next season, which could be a major deciding factor for the Dutch midfielder to switch clubs.

Chelsea need to offload a few players

Maresca wants to overhaul the attacking unit at Chelsea, but he needs to offload a few players to make room for new additions.

Joao Felix has left the club, but Chelsea still need to offload some of their unwanted players such as Raheem Sterling, Renato Veiga, and Christopher Nkunku.

Simons is widely regarded as one of the finest talents in world football, and he is capable of playing across all positions upfront.

The Dutch international has two years left on his current deal at Leipzig, and he probably feels that this is the right time for him to test himself elsewhere.
