Chelsea frontman Daniel Sturridge is the third Premier League player to be an alleged target of racial abuse.

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is the latest player to be embroiled in a racism row after the England international became the target of a racial slur while playing for the Blues in the Champions League.

A complaint was made by an executive club member accusing a wealthy supporter of branding the 22-year-old a "monkey" during the side's away fixture against Genk a fortnight ago, according to the Daily Mail.

"We have had a new complaint from a fan that we are taking very seriously indeed," a Chelsea spokesman is quoted as saying. "We are carrying out an immediate investigation led by our head of security that is likely to involve the police as well.

"We will not tolerate any form of racism and have encouraged our supporters to help identify those responsible and we will track them down."

This fresh racism allegation follows incidents involving Chelsea captain John Terry and Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand along with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
