Chelsea set to receive huge fine after breaking yellow card record in Newcastle win

Why are Chelsea set to receive hefty fine after Newcastle win?

Chelsea are braced to receive a huge fine after they broke an unwanted yellow card record in Sunday's narrow win over Newcastle United.

Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer both got on the scoresheet to fire the Blues to a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.

The win moved Chelsea onto 17 points, leaving them in fifth position in the Premier League table after nine matchdays.

While it may have been a successful result, Chelsea set an unwanted record with a flurry of yellow cards in the home clash.

Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Noni Madueke, Robert Sanchez, Pedro Neto and Christopher Nkunku were all booked against Newcastle.

As a result, Chelsea have become the first team to receive six or more yellow cards in three separate games in a single Premier League season.

Enzo Maresca's side previously received eight cautions in a 1-0 away victory over Bournemouth on September 14.

They then registered six yellow cards in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

How much will Chelsea be fined?

Chelsea were hit with a £25,000 penalty following the Bournemouth clash, before they were fined £50,000 after they received six yellow cards against Forest.

As per The Mirror, the FA has now confirmed that Chelsea will be hit with a fresh £75,000 fine after registering eight cautions in the win over Newcastle.

In a statement, the FA said: "This will be a £75,000 fine for Chelsea for 6+ cautioned in today's game (third multi-participant misconduct of the season)."

Having picked up 36 cautions in nine matches, Chelsea have accumulated seven more yellow cards than the next two worst offenders, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fofana and Marc Cucurella have already served one-match bans for yellow card accumulation, while Neto, Palmer and Jackson are two yellows away from being hit with a suspension.
