Andriy Shevchenko has announced his retirement from football to begin a career in politics.
The announcement has quashed speculation that the former Chelsea and Ukraine striker would sign a contract extension with Dynamo Kiev.
"Perhaps, I will shock everyone; my future has nothing to do with football. It is related to politics," said Shevchenko.
Exact details of Shevchenko's political career are not yet known.
"I will make an official statement," he said. "I hope to have your support."
The Ukrainian had an illustrious spell with AC Milan, where he won the Ballon d'Or in 2004.
