Jose Mourinho: 'Frank Lampard has nothing to prove'

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists that Frank Lampard has nothing left to prove and should simply enjoy the rest of his career.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was full of praise for Frank Lampard after his side's 3-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday.

Lampard scored twice against his former club as Chelsea claimed their second away win of the season.

Mourinho insisted that he simply wants Lampard to enjoy the rest of his career at Stamford Bridge, claiming that he has nothing left to prove to anyone in the game.

"He played very well," Mourinho told reporters. "I was his manager in the best period of his career and now I come back with him to enjoy the last period of his career.

"When he has this relationship with the manager, I think he feels even more comfortable to enjoy himself. He's in a moment where he has nothing to prove - to you, to the fans, to me, to himself. He has nothing to prove.

"He has just to enjoy the last years of his career, try to play the maximum he can, try to score because scoring was always something that was part of his DNA as a player, and enjoy life."

Lampard has scored 207 goals in 625 appearances for Chelsea.
