Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman says that Chelsea can have "no excuses" for their 3-1 defeat to the Reds on Saturday afternoon.

Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman has said that Chelsea can have "no excuses" for their 3-1 defeat to the Reds on Saturday afternoon.

Christian Benteke added to two Philippe Coutinho goals to give Jurgen Klopp his first win in the Premier League, and the defeat leaves Chelsea 15th in the table.

McManaman told BT Sport: "Chelsea can have no excuses today. OK they can moan that maybe Lucas should have been sent off, but they've been well and truly beaten.

"Benteke was dangerous and he was strong and he wasn't the only one. There was only one team who deserved to win today and it was Liverpool by a country mile.

"I loved Jordon Ibe coming on and dropping the shoulder and beaten his man and Benteke was excellent. Liverpool were worthy winners today, it was a great performance."

The result leaves Liverpool five points off the top spot in the table.
