Jose Mourinho defends low-key Radamel Falcao

Jose Mourinho defends low-key Falcao

Jose Mourinho has insisted that he is "very happy" with Radamel Falcao so far despite a quiet start to his Chelsea career.

The Colombian striker joined the Blues on loan from AS Monaco, having scored just four times during a disappointing spell with Manchester United last term.

The 29-year-old joined up with Mourinho's squad late due to his Copa America commitments in June, before drawing another blank in tonight's 1-0 friendly defeat to Fiorentina.

"[Falcao] is very good, he's very good for the situation," he told reporters at full time.

"He played at the Americas Cup (Copa America), then had his holidays, he has had one week of training sessions, not the three weeks the others have had.

"He has had minutes in the different matches. I took him off in his best moment when he was in his best moment in the game. I'm happy with his evolution, very happy to be fair."

Falcao, who also struggled for an impact in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, could start Chelsea's Premier League curtain-raiser with Swansea City on Saturday.
