Deco appeals one-year drugs ban

Former Chelsea midfielder Deco will appeal a one-year ban handed to him for failing a drugs test earlier this year.

Former Chelsea midfielder Deco has announced his intention to appeal a decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to hand him a one-year ban for failing a drugs test.

The 36-year-old, who retired from football in August, tested positive for the diuretic furosemide when playing for Fluminense in March.

Deco has argued that the positive test was a result of a contaminated vitamin supplement, which has resulted in the former Portugal international lodging an appeal to the CAS.

The Brazilian-born playmaker, who spent two years in England between 2008 and 2010, won the Premier League title and two FA Cups during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Deco, when at Chelsea, relaxes during training on October 20, 2009
