Chelsea vs. Man Utd will go ahead

This afternoon's Premier League encounter between Chelsea and Manchester United will go ahead, the Stamford Bridge club have confirmed.

Many fixtures this weekend have been postponed because of heavy snow across the UK, including the Championship East Midlands derby between Derby and Nottingham Forest, which was meant to kick off at 12.15 today.

Concerns over today's fixture were rife after many London Underground services were affected yesterday evening but a statement issued on the Blues' website read: "The Stamford Bridge site and surrounding area is being cleared of snow and local transport is working.

"Kickoff is at 4pm. Supporters are advised to allow extra time for their journeys."

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last nine home league games against Manchester United, winning six of those, but have fallen adrift of their recent title rivals this season and are currently 12 points behind the Red Devils.

In the reverse fixture in September, United raced to a 3-0 half-time lead before Fernando Torres scored a rare goal to pull one back.

Unfortunately for the Spaniard he will not be remembered for the clever finish over David de Gea but for a glaring miss later in the second period when all he had to do was stroke into an empty net.
