Chelsea trio struggling to be fit for season opener

Frank Lampard, David Luiz and Juan Mata are rated as doubtful to be fit for Chelsea's opening-weekend Premier League fixture against Hull City.

Frank Lampard, David Luiz and Juan Mata are rated as doubtful to be fit for Chelsea's opening Premier League fixture of the season.

Lampard has struggled with an Achilles injury throughout pre-season, meaning that, although he is showing signs of recovery, he is lacking match fitness ahead of next Sunday's clash with recently-promoted Hull City.

However, the 35-year-old has been included in Roy Hodgson's England squad for Wednesday night's friendly against Scotland, which could give him some much-needed game time.

Luiz has struggled with a hamstring complaint since the end of last season and the Brazilian defender has also been unable to feature frequently in Chelsea's tour of the United States.

Meanwhile, Spanish playmaker Mata has a slight muscular injury.
