Petr Cech refutes claims that Torres could turn out to be another Shevchenko.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has backed Fernando Torres to be a hit at Stamford Bridge.

Torres has only scored once since making a £50m move from Liverpool, which has led to comparisons with former striker Andriy Shevchenko.

“The time will come for Fernando,” Cech said. “There are no similarities with Shevchenko. Torres will score goals and will be fine.

“With Andriy, it did not work from the start. But you can see with Fernando that he is working, improving all the time.

“We need to improve as a team to play with him. It’s just a matter of time.”

Chelsea are currently in Hong Kong as part of their pre-season tour of the Far East.
