Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that he rejected the chance to become manager of Tottenham Hotspur following his departure from the Blues in 2007.
The Portuguese left Stamford Bridge in September 2007 in the aftermath of a draw with Rosenborg in a Champions League fixture, and was the offered the manager's position at White Hart Lane soon after his departure.
However, a clause in his contract denied Mourinho the chance to manage another English club for two years, while compensation packages from Spurs to Chelsea also failed.
Explaining the situation, Mourinho told reporters: "I couldn't go. I couldn't train in England for two years."
When asked if he would have accepted the job if the move was granted, Mourinho added: "No, because I love Chelsea supporters too much."
Chelsea play Spurs in the final of the Capital One Cup at Wembley later today.
