Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Brighton & Hove Albion

Chelsea injury, suspension list vs. Brighton

Chelsea are scheduled to return to Premier League action on Wednesday evening with a showdown with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Blues have experienced mass selection issues of late, but several returning players made an impact as Chelsea defeated Aston Villa by a 3-1 scoreline on Boxing Day.

However, with another fixture in a matter of days and more injuries to contend with, head coach Thomas Tuchel has plenty to ponder ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their encounter with the Seagulls.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Chilwell has been making excellent progress in his recovery from a knee injury, but he will remain unavailable for the foreseeable future.

Thiago Silva

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Silva needed to be withdrawn shortly after half time during the Villa fixture. While the veteran was able to trot off the pitch unaided, Tuchel will not risk the Brazilian's hamstring injury on Wednesday.

Timo Werner

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: December 29 (vs. Brighton)

Despite returns for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Romelu Lukaku, Werner did not feature at Villa Park. Nevertheless, the German may be back in contention on Wednesday night.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Kante lasted just over an hour against Villa before being forced off. Tuchel revealed after the game that it was a recurrence of the knee injury which recently kept the Frenchman out for just under a month.

Kai Havertz

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: December 29 (vs. Brighton & Hove Albion)

Havertz tested positive for coronavirus over a week ago, but did not appear in the squad for the Villa game. However, with a further three days to recover, the German may return on Wednesday night.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: December 29 (vs. Brighton)

Loftus-Cheek finds himself in the same position as Havertz, meaning that the midfielder could make an appearance versus the Seagulls.
