Van Gaal: Benfica can beat Chelsea

Louis Van Gaal believes that Benfica have a "good chance" of beating Chelsea when the two sides meet in the last eight of the Champions League.

Louis Van Gaal believes that Benfica have a "good chance" of beating Chelsea when the two sides meet in the last eight of the Champions League.

The Dutchman, who is reportedly Roman Abramovich's next choice as Blues manager, did concede that the Lisbon outfit lack individual star quality.

However, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager said that Jorge Jesus's side more than make up for that in team spirit.

"Benfica have a solid squad and they play with a lot of intensity and inspiration," the 60-year-old told Record. "Even without any star players, I think that Benfica have a good chance of seeing off Chelsea, although it will be very hard.

"Sometimes, it is better to have a strong group of players than to have only great individual players."

Van Gaal has not worked since being sacked as manager of Bayern Munich in April of last year.
