Gary Cahill wants Chelsea to push on following Maccabi Tel Aviv win

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill hopes that the Champions League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv will help the Blues to recover from their slow start to the season.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has said that the Blues must use their Champions League victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv as a springboard to revive their season.

The England international scored the opening goal in Israel as Jose Mourinho's side moved a step closer to the knockout stages with a 4-0 victory on Tuesday night.

Chelsea have made a poor start to their Premier League title defence, losing seven of their opening 13 matches, but Cahill has said that they need to maintain their European form when domestic action resumes this weekend.

"It's important we keep this momentum going," Cahill told Chelsea's official website.

"It was important for a number of reasons. First and foremost and the most important one was for the Champions League and to make sure we put ourselves in a position to try to qualify top.

"But as well to build the momentum off the back of the Norwich result and keep building these wins and try to gather these wins to turn this around. It was important for a lot of reasons and very pleasing."

Chelsea travel to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
