Powell: 'Duchatelet takeover could make Charlton stronger'

Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell has expressed his belief that Roland Duchatelet's takeover could help to turn the club into promotion contenders.

The Belgian businessman, who also owns Standard Liege in his homeland, completed his purchase of the Championship outfit last Friday.

"This is a really positive move for Charlton," Powell told the South London Press. "Roland has been involved in football for a long time. He's very clear on what he would like to do at Charlton to see us progress and wants to do it in the right way.

"He's been very successful in his own right in the business world. He's coming to England to do his best to restore Charlton as best he can. He has a vision and plan for the football club.

"We've been in contact daily - either on the phone or by email. He is a very positive man and I like that. Roland will have the football club at heart and want to do the right things to make the club viable commercially. Ultimately he will want the club to succeed on the field."

Charlton currently sit 19th in the table after 24 games.
