Goalkeeper Nick Pope praises positive Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Nick Pope insists that Charlton Athletic were deserving winners over Queens Park Rangers.

Nick Pope has hailed the positive approach that Charlton Athletic had during their 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Having only just been relegated and with the likes of Charlie Austin in their starting lineup, the visiting R's were regarded by the bookmakers as the favourites to pick up all three points at The Valley.

However, with Pope between the posts, Charlton kept a clean sheet and they went on to win the encounter courtesy of second-half goals from Tony Watt and Morgan Fox.

"With their budget and stature, having just come from the Premier League, not many people would have fancied us but we deserved the win," the 23-year-old told the club's official website.

"The manager has that we don't go into games to take a draw - whoever it is. QPR first at home was a good way to test that, we went out to win it and we did.

"It's early days yet. I'm delighted to tick the first one off with a win and a clean sheet. You can't ask for anything more. I'm very pleased, but we've all got to keep going."

Tomorrow, the Addicks will be in League Cup action against Dagenham & Redbridge.
