Celta Vigo sign Marcelo Diaz

La Liga outfit Celta Vigo have completed the signing of Chilean midfielder Marcelo Diaz from German side Hamburger SV.

Celta lost Augusto Fernandez to Atletico Madrid earlier this month and had been linked with a number of midfielders in recent days.

The Spanish team have now announced Fernandez's direct replacement, however, with Diaz, 29, moving to Vigo on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Diaz was part of the Chile squad that won the Copa America last summer and he has also previously won two league titles with Basel.

Celta continue their top-four challenge in La Liga against Levante at the weekend, but Diaz has not been registered in time to make his debut.
