Cardiff City dismiss enquiries for veteran midfielder Peter Whittingham

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade says that the club have dismissed "a couple" of enquiries for veteran midfielder Peter Whittingham.

Cardiff City have dismissed two enquiries for Peter Whittingham, manager Russell Slade has revealed.

Whittingham has made over 380 appearances since signing from Aston Villa in 2007, and Slade continues to see the veteran midfielder as a big part of his plans for the next Championship campaign.

"I've had a couple of enquiries about him, which Peter is aware of. We don't want to let him go," he told WalesOnline.

"Some of the onus is going to fall on his shoulders next season. He will want to get off to a good start and I'm sure he is going to want to impress. He sets himself very high standards.

"In terms of what we can do to help him, pre-season is going to be useful so we can get some rules into play and get across what we are going to actually require from him. In terms of forward movement I think that is important. We know he can play that central role. Sometimes he can do the one narrowed up on the side possibly. He's a good passer of the ball, but you do want him in those forward areas himself because he can find that killer pass."

Whittingham has played a pivotal part during his eight seasons in South Wales, helping Cardiff to the 2008 FA Cup Final, 2012 League Cup final, and promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

Hull City had been linked with the former England Under-21 international after losing Stephen Quinn to Reading.
