Cardiff City confirm the signing of Chilean international Gary Medel on a club-record deal, with the midfielder signing a four-year contract.

Cardiff City have confirmed that they have completed a deal to sign Chilean international Gary Medel for a fee believed to be in the region of £9m.

The Bluebirds have broken the club's transfer record for a third time this summer to sign the midfielder from Sevilla, with Medel following Steven Caulker and Andreas Cornelius into the record books.

An official club statement confirmed that Medel has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the new Premier League outfit, subject to international clearance.

The statement read: "Cardiff City can today confirm the record signing of Chilean international Gary Medel from Sevilla FC on a four year deal, subject to a work permit.

"The midfielder has made close to sixty appearances for Chile and played in three of his country's 2010 FIFA World Cup fixtures in South Africa.

"The 26 year old completed his medical on Saturday, having played for Sevilla the night before in their 3-1 win at Manchester United."

Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay declared that he is delighted with the signing this earlier today, insisting that Cardiff need a combative midfielder of Medel's ilk to be competitive this season.
