Cambridge United, AFC Wimbledon share spoils after goalless draw

Cambridge United and AFC Wimbledon settle for a point each after playing out a goalless draw at the Abbey Stadium in League Two.

Cambridge United and AFC Wimbledon both missed second-half penalties as they settled for a point each following a goalless draw in League Two this evening.

Wimbledon were the first side to create something and it came through Adedeji Oshilaja who shot straight at Chris Dunn, before Adebayo Akinfenwa also forced a decent save from the keeper.

The visitors dominated the early stages of the game and they almost went ahead when Akinfenwa got free to meet a corner, only to send his headed effort wide to the right.

Cambridge responded through Josh Coulson, but his header was denied at the top-right corner by a clever save from James Shea.

The visitors were awarded a penalty in the second half when Adebayo Azeez was brought down by Coulson, but Dunn pulled off a great save to keep out the kick from Akinfenwa.

Controversy ruled again in the 60th minute as Wimbledon were awarded a penalty of their own when Sammy Moore was adjudged to have produced a handball.

Fortunately for AFC, Shea was in good form to keep out Robbie Simpson's effort from the spot with a save down at the bottom-right corner, leaving the sides to settle for a point each at the Abbey Stadium.
